Muscat, Oman, 4 September 2020-A delegation of ten Pakistan companies endorsed by the Embassy of Pakistan under the banner of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will be showcasing various food products such as rice, oil, honey, confectionery and bakery items for the first time at the 14th Food & Hospitality Oman exhibition, which will be open to food and hospitality professionals from October 14 to 16, Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The confirmation of a Pakistan pavilion follows the recent signing ceremony that took place at the Embassy of Pakistan, Muscat, between officials from organizer Omanexpo represented by Exhibition Director Ammar Ahmad and Charge d'Affaires of the Pakistan Embassy Kiran Akber.

Ahmad says "We are delighted to welcome Pakistan as a pavilion to the event. Their presence and participation is proof of the growing and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. It will, as well, do much to encourage increased business with local buyers and trade partners and offer more opportunities for businesses and companies."

Speaking of the strong relations between the two countries, Ms. Kiran comments, "Oman and Pakistan have always shared a strong and friendly economic and political relationship. Geographically, we are placed at strategic points from each other which lends itself to diverse trade and investment opportunities and this is something we have and are always willing to explore more through various projects."

"Oman's food and hospitality industries are growing with numerous food chains, restaurant and hotels being constructed across the country. This is the right time for Pakistan exporters to come and explore the market and forge deals with businesses and companies," she adds. Omanexpo raises the bar yet again in this year's edition, introducing new culinary competitions such as the Waiters' Race and Bedmaking Competition in its bid to open up more avenues and opportunities for the entire hospitality supply chain. The event will also play host to 2018 World Barista Champion Agnieszka Rojes, who will display her world-class coffee making and brewing skills through demonstrations on the last day.

For three days, the event will also be a showcase of about 600 local and international brands from leading exporters of food and hospitality products, services and equipment. For three days, the popular trade event will be a showcase of about 600 local and international brands from leading exporters of food and hospitality products, services and equipment. The brands, representing 21 exhibiting countries, cover the entire gamut of the food and hospitality sector, with products and services relating to food products, beverages, agriculture and fisheries, ingredients and seasoning, catering and kitchen equipment, packaging systems, resort and spa facilities, hotel decor, hotel and hospitality technologies, HORECA furniture and services, and food processing technologies.

WORLD BARISTA CHAMPION TO PERFORM IN OMAN FOR THE FIRST TIME

Coffee enthusiasts, cafe and restaurant owners, coffee franchise outlets, coffee equipment manufacturers, buyers, suppliers, distributors and retailers catering to the coffee business will be treated to a world-class coffee making and brewing demonstration by Agnieszka Rojes, the title holder of the 2018 World Barista Championship, at the Food & Hospitality Oman event from October 14 to 16, Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Poland-born Rojes is the first female to win in the prestigious World Barista Championship, which was held in the Netherlands. Apart from working as a barista trainer, she constantly tours the world to attend events, judge at competitions, and gives talks at coffee events. She is currently a member of the Barista Guild of Europe.

Ammar Ahmad, exhibition director, Food & Hospitality Oman, comments, "We are delighted to host Ms. Rojes at the event, which is a first in Oman. This is a refreshing highlight of our very own Oman Barista Competition. Her presence at the show will inspire and motivate budding baristas in Oman to raise their skill and creativity level, increase their knowledge and understanding of (specialty) coffee and its origins, as well as coffee preparation techniques."

He adds that over the last few years, coffee shop owners and employers have been ensuring training for their baristas as they believe that it is not only learning proper coffee preparation techniques that is important but knowledge about how coffee is produced, where it is grown, its growing conditions, its characteristics and varieties and various processing methods.

Oman's growing coffee culture, the increasing demand and consumption of coffee, and the continuous entry of coffee franchise outlets, retail stores and hypermarkets that cater to the coffee business is encouraging small players especially in the specialty coffee market. The organizers believe that leveraging this growing interest in coffee through competitions will add value to the entire supply chain, offer opportunities for the coffee products and companies being represented to showcase their competitive edge, and influence improvements in coffee equipment and technology as well as the quality and grade of coffee.

In its bid to support Oman's coffee industry and the food industry as a whole, Omanexpo has been organizing the Oman Barista Competition as part of Food & Hospitality Oman exhibition. Now on its sixth edition, it has grown to become one of the popular features of the landmark industry show. It is organized in association with the National Hospitality Institute (NHI) Oman and Italy-based coffee brand illy.

The conference, organized by biggest exhibitions and conferences organizer Omanexpo, will be held in conjunction with the 14th Food and Hospitality Oman exhibition from the 14th to the 16th of October at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

It will be highlighted by an opening keynote address by a government representative, presentations, case studies, and interactive panel sessions that will provide valuable insights on standards and regulations, emerging trends, innovations and technology, food safety and quality in supply chain, food safety audits, and food safety operations in food processing, handling and distribution.

On the global front, the World Health Organization has strengthened its efforts to ensure food safety worldwide, underlining its ramifications on "food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development."

Ammar Ahmad, exhibition director, Food and Hospitality Oman, says "Food safety is increasingly becoming a major concern in Oman due to the rising number of foodborne health cases in recent years. We aim to help improve Oman's food safety culture, provide a means to proper and direct information about food safety standards and best practices, and offer an avenue to meet and interact with key industry players and experts."

The free-to-attend conference is endorsed by Muscat Municipality and supported by National Hospitality Institute, Food Safety Academy and Oman Tourism College.

MCCAIN FOODS TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BURGERS OMAN AT FOOD & HOSPITALITY EXPO

From October 14 to 16, professional chefs from leading local burger joints will showcase their grilling skills in a competition for the best burger in Oman.

The competition, dubbed "Battle of the Burgers Oman," the first-of-its-kind competition in Oman, was launched in Omanexpo's 2018 edition of Food & Hospitality Oman exhibition as an initiative to help rouse interest in young talents in honing their skills and encourage budding cooks and chefs to further their culinary education in a professional environment.

McCain Foods, a global frozen food company and the world's largest manufacturer of frozen potato specialties, has once again given its thumbs up to host the competition and support the exhibition as Gold sponsor.

McCain Foods' participation in the pioneer organizer's latest show offering demonstrates its commitment to promote the food industry by continuously developing new and innovative food products, identifying new insights and trends, and working with suppliers and collaborators to explore new food technologies.

Following the enthusiastic response to its inaugural edition, Omanexpo will be incorporating the competition as a permanent feature of the landmark food and hospitality show as part of its objectives to add more innovative concepts and value-added attractions that will provide more entertaining and educational options to visitors.

Ammar Ahmad, exhibition director, Food & Hospitality Oman, says "Competitions like these are benefitting chefs and the industry alike, as they help raise the level of knowledge and skill by learning from expert feedback. They also serve as a tool for professional development. This holds true for our other equally popular competitions-our signature Professional Chefs Competition and Oman Barista Competition-now running for the seventh and tenth editions respectively, where past participants have affirmed that the competitions have enriched their professional experience."

"These competitions offer a platform or an avenue for local food producers, restaurateurs, retailers, manufacturers, distributors and importers to access numerous business opportunities. They also contribute to advancing the food and hospitality industries while promoting the best of local culinary talent, encouraging entrepreneurship, and building a global community," comments Hussein Daaboul, General Manager-Business Unit, Al Jabal Trading & Ref Co., distributor of McCain Foods.
